For the maximum enjoyment from your cycle holiday one should always prepare from home. It's important that you have a good cycle and the proper equipment for your baggage. 

If you do not want the trouble of bringing your own bicycle then there are many places where one can hire. Though it is best to remember that, in most cases one shall return the bicycle to the same place one hired it from. Hire a bike with a selection of gears and sensible tyres. It is important to ensure that your saddle is adjusted to the proper height.

  Stage Length  

  • Plan your distances. When children are a part of the group then of course their abilities decide.

  • An average cyclist can ride 10-12 km pr hr for about 5-6 hours pr day.

  • Decide cycling speed with regard to the slowest cyclist in your group.

  • Plan your route around the sightseeing.

  • Never plan longer stages than can be accomplished even with unforeseen problems.

  Tips for preplanning  

  • Check the bicycle thoroughly and remember to keep the cycle tyres fully pumped up to help lessen your punctures.

  • Not all places on the route will have bicycle repair shops, so remember basic equipment (puncture kits, screwdriver etc.) and a pump.

  • A bicycle basket or some kind of front baggage is a good addition to the essential cycle bags.

  • Carry a water bottle where it is easily accessed.

  • The bicycle should always have installed both lights and reflectors.

  • The recommended weight is max. 15 kg luggage pr. bicycle.

  • Take rainwear clothing.

  • Plan your intended sleeping places with regard to your choice of clothes.

  • Check with tourist bureaus and the local cycle shops.

  Traffic advice and rules  

  • An adult (over 15 years) may have a maximum of two children under 6 years old riding on the bicycle with them.

  • Bicycles with attached child carriers must have two independent brakes.

  • Children over 6 years old may cycle alone, though it is recommended in fast traffic that an adult cycle on the left hand side of the child.

  • All bicycles in Denmark must be fitted with a white reflective strip that is visible from the front. In addition there should also be yellow reflective strips set in the wheel spokes so that they are visible from the side.

  • It is recommended that one uses a cycle helmet even though it is not demanded by law.

  • When turning and stopping you must give clear hand signals.

  • Please note that, when turning left at a crossroads, you must do it in two stages in an L shape, first cross to the right hand side then turn and cross again.

  Nature Rules  

  • We are all interested in protecting nature and the environments, so please use paths and track way, do not destroy vegetation and be careful with rubbish.

  • In the open landscape it is allowed to cycle on roads and improved paths, unless there is a no cycling sign.

  • Cycling on roads and paths in national forests is allowed all day. In private forests larger than five hectares it is allowed to cycle on roads and paths between 7 a.m. and sunset.
